Dejan started his football career at Youth Academy FK “Proleter” Zrenjanin, Yugoslavia in 1983.
In 1990 Dejan signed a professional contract and played for ten years at the highest level in Europe.
Dejan developed a passion for football and worked hard in developing his personal skills and was always willing to learn more about understanding how football should be played. He was always keen to learn more about the game and spent a lot of time with the coaches he worked with who assisted him in continually improving his skills, and he was always willing to learn more about the tactics of football.
In 2002 Dejan commenced his coaching career. His love and enjoyment of the game were obvious to all and he had the desire to pass on his knowledge to younger players. Dejan’s passion for football was inspirational and a great asset when working with players and assisting them to get the best out of their football skills.
Dejan’s coaching style was special, he had worked with many different coaches during his career and he developed a unique coaching style that he felt would be beneficial to all players of the age groups that he coached.
Dejan had a variety of positions with the Youth Academy “Proleter” Zrenjanin Serbia commencing in 2002 coaching junior players. (2002-2003).
After that, Dejan served as an Assistant Head Coach for the First Team at “Proleter” Zrenjanin Serbia from 2003 – 2004.
In 2005 Dejan was appointed Head Coach for the First Team again at “Proleter” Zrenjanin Serbia during 2005 to 2006.
In 2007 he joined Youth Academy “Sporto” Zrenjanin Serbia as an Instructor, a position he held until 2010.
In 2013 Dejan was given the opportunity to work with Bonnyrigg White Eagles Football Club in NSW, Australia coaching the club U/14s. Dejan continued his tenure with Bonnyrigg White Eagles and, in 2015, was appointed as Football Technical Director and Coach for the U/15s and U/18s. From 2019-2021, Dejan was coaching at Marconi Stallions SAP and Youth teams.
Dejan believes that as a coach and trainer, he has to continually make decisions, for the benefit of the players and the team. Dejan is always working on finding a balance between player development and winning team culture, whilst always keeping the needs of his players as a high priority following FFA Curriculum.
To do this, Dejan believes that he has the ability to pass on to his players the skills and tactics, gained from his football background as a trainer, a player and a coach to develop and enhance the natural flair of young football players and to create an environment that will mould them into a strong team.
